Board of Trustees
Our trustees come from a range of health and entrepreneurship backgrounds, and their diversity and experience reflects the commitment of the i-CAN Foundation towards its vision of reducing morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases in Nigeria.
Dr. Elima Jedy-Agba (MBBCH, MSc. PhD)
Dr. Elima Jedy-Agba MBBCH, MSc. PhD is the founder of the i-CAN foundation. She has a medical degree from the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria; a Masters’ degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, United Kingdom and a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health from the same Institution, LSHTM.
As a Public Health Physician and Epidemiologist, she is greatly committed to studying diseases at the population level and improving the health of communities across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. She has over 10 years of experience working in public health, and cancer research particularly in the area of breast and cervical cancers. She is a fellow of several distinguished organizations including, Christ Church College of the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, World Cancer Research Fund International and the International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC). She is also a member of several national and international public health and research organizations including the Society of Oncology and Cancer Research of Nigeria (SOCRON), the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), The African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR).
She has published several scientific papers in international journals, written 2 chapters in the World Breast Cancer Report 2012 and the first book on Cancer in Nigeria 2009-2013. Dr. Jedy-Agba is on the board of several non-governmental organizations. She is passionate about cancer care in Nigeria and is an advocate of early detection and down-staging of breast and cervical cancers.
Mr. Tim Jedy-Agba
(BSc. MBA)
Mr. Tim Jedy-Agba BSc. MBA is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the i-CAN Foundation. He has a first degree from the University of Jos Nigeria and a Masters’ in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).
Mr. Jedy Agba was a banker for over 10 years after which he started and has sustained several successful businesses. He is the CEO of TIJAYS Ventures Limited, TIJAYS Food and Beverages and JD Leisure Centre. Mr. Jedy-Agba is a seasoned entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience and brings to i-CAN his experience, and financial expertise.
Professor Ifeome Okoye (MBBS, FMCR, FWACS)
Professor Ifeome Okoye MBBS, FMCR, FWACS is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). She was recently appointed Director of the University of Nigeria, Centre for Clinical Trials -UNNCECT, which she is running in collaboration with the Centre for Clinical Research, University of Cape Town (CRC-UCT).
For her renowned social entrepreneurship work and for being a change-maker in the area of breast and cervical cancer advocacy, she has received several awards and fellowships.
Prof. Okoye over 15 years of experience in clinical research and is a strong advocate for the early detection of cancers in Nigeria. She is the Founder and President of Breast Without Spots, a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving knowledge about cancer and improving early detection in Nigeria. She is on several working groups for cancer control set up the Federal Ministry of Health of Nigeria. She is also involved in several other academic, social and intellectual projects across Africa.
She is a member of the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Prof. Okoye is a motivational speaker, lifestyle coach and a dedicated cancer advocate at the national and international level.
Dr. Mrs Monica Okom
(BSc. MSc. PhD)
Dr. Mrs Monica Okom BSc. MSc. PhD is an experienced educator with a Bachelors’ Degree in Health Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a Masters’ degree in Medical Sociology and a PhD in Medical Sociology both from the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. She is also a registered Nurse and Midwife and a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing.
She has a strong passion for improving health care and education in Nigeria and serves on the board of several community based, civil society, non- profit organizations and schools.
Dr Okom’s expertise in education will be brought to bear in the development of i-CAN’s education strategy and initiatives and its community outreach programs.
Dr. Augusta Imomon
(MBBS)
Dr Augusta Imomon earned an MBBS Degree from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in June, 2017.
She is a Public Health Physician in view and an ECTS certified Clinical Research Associate with distinctions in Clinical trial monitoring, Practice of Clinical Research and Bioethics from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Hochschule, Hannover, Germany in 2016 where she participated in producing the World Bioethics Day expository movie tagged “Within my Small Circle”
During her days in Medical school, She engaged in numerous Extra Curricula activities. She was once a Director and Vice President of UNEC Medics against AIDS(Medix Frontiers) and was the President of the ‘Blood saves lives’ group in the teaching hospital.
She was a member of the House of Representatives, a member of the academic board and the Publicity officer of the Public Health Programme Committee of the University of Nigeria Medical Students Association.
Outside of Campus, she helped in coordinating activities of Uzommiri Study Centre for girls which involved mentoring fresh intakes into the University among other things.
She is Volunteer Writer on Demographic Dividends and Research for Conversations for Change an international Non Governmental Organization, the Creative Director of Abuja Literary Society TEEN TALK and also an online volunteer for the Biomedical Communications Center, UNIC.
She was the House Officer’s Representative at National Hospital Abuja.
During her one year at the Hospital, She served as the Deputy Editor in Chief, Assistant Director of Socials, Secretary of the Outreach Committee and a Member of the welfare committee of the Association of Resident Doctors, National Hospital Abuja.
She is the Founder/CEO of Medics Express Mobile Healthcare. She loves photography, reading, writing, dancing and rendering services to humanity.
She will bring her wealth of experience to the I-CAN team
Other Team Members
Ms. Liwhan Ugbizi BSc. Has a BSc in Radigraphy from the University of Calabar Cross River State Nigeria. She is currently a radiographer and is experienced in taking x-rays and conducting mammograms and breast ultra sounds for patients with suspicious symptoms.
Barr. Rita Adie LLM is a lawyer and the secretary of i-CAN. She handles all documentation of the organization and organizes meetings of the Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Eudoria Ita BSc. Is a breast cancer survivor and serves as a patient advocate on the team. She is instrumental in the education of newly diagnosed patients who do not believe that breast cancer can be treated.
